It seems that we are continuing on from last year. Nico going great guns in the practice. Hamilton and Button are also up there. Michael may not think he is back in the grove yet, but he did look good with a 3rd fastest pace. Not too shabby for an old man :), he's 41.
I had thought Kobayashi had been dropped, but I was misinformed, he's back, and not really surprising after his blistering performance towards the end of 2009. If he doesn't get injured, he is definitely my one to watch. You have to believe that BMW Sauber have at least a mid grid car, so expect Kobayashi to be at worst 13th.
The new teams are finding it more difficult getting started. Lotus are hoping to be competitive in 3 years time. HRT (not a menopause treatment) are still putting the car together, having missed the pre season testing in Spain. Virgin did manage a number of laps, so look to be off the also ran list very quickly.
It's funny that the Williams driving team is rated 3rd in experience when one of them has never raced in F1 before. I am so thrilled that my good friend Rubins is racing still. ( I don't actually know him, but he's such a nice fellow you can't help but want to :) )
Expect to see objections being raised concerning McLaren's bladder controlled aerodynamic element. As a repeat of Brawn's diffuser last year, it comes down to the intent of the regulations. It was intended that the aerodynamics should not change from one part of the circuit to any other. This is clearly not the case with bladder control, which disrupts airflow to the rear wing, or not, depending on the drivers knee position. It is also interesting that after the regulation changes for 1994, after the death of Ayrton Senna, to reduce downforce, the 2010 cars have more than the 1993 versions. That's progress for you.
As usual, due to multiple regulation changes and driver moves, it is impossible to predict what this season will bring. This is the attraction of F1, the constantly developing, intertwined story-lines.
We have new teams, new driver, new circuits and new regulations to look forward to, and.....Michael is back.
No one has dominated the sport since Michael Schumacher's retirement 3 years ago, even though Fernando Alonso won the drivers trophy in Michael's final 2 years. In that time we have had 3 new world champions in Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, and Ferrari has drifted off the pinnacle.
This year we have Alonso in a Ferrari and Schumacher teamed up again with Ross Brawn in the team that won the constructor's last year and now called Mercedes GP. Button has moved to McLaren with Hamilton, and Massa is back with Ferrari.
Do not expect anything spectacular out of any of the new teams, Lotus, HRT, USF1(USGPE), or Virgin. I don't care who you are, year 1 in F1 is always a learning exercise. Of the rest, you can probably eliminate Torro Rosso, no #1 driver, Force India, no #1 driver, Renault, one driver and Williams, one driver, leaving Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren and Mercedes. N.B. the comments on the drivers are not personal, all F1 drivers are really, really good, but they are not the best yet.
Each of the four teams will win some races, with some of the others possibly winning when the usual unexpected happenstance happens. The question is has the driving standard and, more importantly, the driver commitment increased since Michael's retirement. If the answer is no, then watch out for Schumie, if the answer is yes then expect Schumacher to improve as the season progresses. I would predict that, if Michael wins the first race, in Bahrain, then the season is over.
The only champion remaining in the same car as last year is Lewis, so some advantage has to go to him and also the Red Bull team of Vettel and Webber are in the same car, well as 'same' as it can be seeing as the cars are different for every race. Massa has come so close in the last few years so we will have to see how his crash has affected him.
All in all it should be another tight and interesting season, assuming Michael does not run away with it, and even then that would be fun too. To watch the master again.
Hi,
I am a Systems Architect and have been pondering for a year about how to build an auxiliary manufacturing base within the US. Now that the President is addressing this issue I felt it pertinent to submit my 2 cents worth, in the form of a link to my personal web site, where I am developing the idea.
http://davidryman.com/DragonTau.php/2010/03/11/manufacturing-opportunities-in-the-us#more272
It is not possible for one person to develop this idea on there own and would not be done by any company big enough to do it, so the only organization that can do it is the Federal Government. The benefits are enormous.
I, of course, would be willing to contribute with the architecture, math and/or philosophy should I find anyone wanting to develop the project.
Link: http://davidryman.com/writer.php?title=manufacturing-opportunities-in-the-us&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#more272 Workforce
The workforce at a manufacturing plant are generally paid minimum wage. I would envision two distinct groups of workers, the experienced and the trainees. The Trainees would likely be those that have recently left the education system. They will be able to get some productive experience before moving on to better paid 'traditional' businesses. The Experienced workers would likely be retired, part-time people seeking additional income to bolster their retirement funds. They would also include workers between jobs, who have some valuable experience under their belts. There would probably be a third group, those that cannot find better paying jobs and remain within the system for life. Still it would be better than claiming Social Security.
It is not the intent of this manufacturing base to make anything complex, so the workers do not have to be highly skilled, although there are no boundaries.
There are many reasons for the decline in manufacturing in the US.
Restrictive trading practices in other countries.
Cheaper products made overseas.
Tax breaks for outsourcing.
To start a new business requires more than an idea. You need premises, a work force, administrative staff, material supplies, sales outlets, and all this requires money. The process is overwhelming to all but a few dedicated individuals, and there is no guarantee of success, the majority of small businesses fail within the first 2 years.
It does not have to be that way, if we all get together and "Do what we do best".
We all have the 'great idea' that would make a fortune if only....If only we had someone we could trust to take it and run with it. Well why not.
Set up an 'Ideas development shop', where anyone can go to develop their ideas. Given encouragement most people would pursue there ideas given that they might make some money from it.
OK we have the IDS (Ideas Development Shop) and it has 100s of product ideas filed away. Now what.

If you’re reading this, you’re no doubt asking yourself, “Why did this have to happen?” The simple truth is that it is complicated and has been coming for a long time. The writing process, started many months ago, was intended to be therapy in the face of the looming realization that there isn’t enough therapy in the world that can fix what is really broken. Needless to say, this rant could fill volumes with example after example if I would let it. I find the process of writing it frustrating, tedious, and probably pointless… especially given my gross inability to gracefully articulate my thoughts in light of the storm raging in my head. Exactly what is therapeutic about that I’m not sure, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

None of the skins available for B2Evolution look exactly like I would like my web sites to look like. So I have decided it is time to create my own. The following are attribute or functions that I would like to include, based on the Chuck_zen skin I had already produced by modifying the Simple Zen skin by Foppe Hemminga.
- At least 2 sidebars.
- Smaller header graphic.
- Header graphic using same technique.
- Tighter text, less white space
- Wider columns
And the results are in.........

The Art of War by Sun Tzu, artofwar.davidryman.com
The image at the top of the page follow the idea I used for my first attempt at a skin.
The idea was to take one image/photo and create a header graphic for the web site skin.
This is done by creating a mirror image of the selected picture to be located on the right side of the header. |

To "join" the 2 images together I have taken a 1px slice from the left side of the right one (or the right side of the left one, as they are the same). In this case I searched google for a suitable image tagged as "labelled for reuse".
The images were manipulated using Gimp (which can be found on my software download site, along with other open applications) |

Speaking of which, here is the Free site
The 3 images are named swright.jpg, swcenter.jpg and swleft.jpg. The free site demonstrates what happens if the right image is missing. Hopefully this will work in IE. |

In the img folder within the skin are additional folders that contain the different sets of images. These can selected in the B2Evolution back office as a skin setting, the parameter is the folder name e.g. /artofwar. I am thinking that I should probably add an additional parameter to enable the selection of gif and png images. Look for it in the next release.

This final screenshot is from the new Dixie County Advocate site I am building.
To blow my own trumpet, the lightbox plugin and the scrolling contents widget are also my own development projects.

After I finish testing and massaging it I'll put a link here so the download.
I have never been one to stuff my face with whatever is handy, preferring to let my body tell me what to eat. I am not saying that my diet is perfect or has even been nutritious most of the time, as has come to light during a recent and rare visit to the medical profession, what I am saying is that if I am in the mood for a particular epicurean delight, I indulge myself. I figure my body knows better what it needs than do I.
Whilst working in the RV, installing some more network hardware, I could feel my blood pressure rising and started feeling faint. With hindsight, it was probably an anxiety attack, but a trip to the MD seemed appropriate. I had blood, and pressure, taken and an EKG. The EKG "showed nothing to be concerned about", which concerns me as to what the nothing I should not be concerned about was. The result of all this is that I am now on medication to lower my BP and several weeks later, after the blood tests had been done, received notification that my cholesterol was high and a diet sheet of foods to eat and the ones to avoid.
I have many, many issues with the medical profession, and now I have some more. Firstly, a total cholesterol level is fairly useless information, there's HDL and LDL, one is good and one is bad, I need to know that I have of each. Secondly, telling me what to and what not to eat might be a little more constructive if you actually know what I eat and do not eat now.
The upshot is I am no longer using butter, whipped cream in my coffee, or cheese. We will have to wait and see if this is enough to lower my cholesterol from 265 to below 200.

The selected components are as follows:
The case: APEVIA Black / Red SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-RD/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case.

Link: http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode Having found a suitable router to use as a client bridge to connect the on-board computer network in the motor home to an internet access point, we now have to configure it.
I chose a Linksys WRT54G for the purpose and happened to buy a Version 3 edition to load the DD-WRT firmware on.
First step was to ensure the router worked correctly as it is supposed to. Next, the firmware was brought up to date with the latest from Linksys. Then we get to the real upgrade, to DD-WRT vintage mini version. I found instruction on the DD-WRT wiki page. This particular router works best with the vintage edition of the firmware and can be updated with a variety of versions. As we only need to use it as a bridge, the mini version would suffice.
I have cut and pasted the instructions to configure as a bridge, but research on DD-WRT provides all the information needed to do the job.

We have the motor-home, had basic, but thorough instruction in its operation, have the new HDTV installed, have everything we need from the house loaded OK, so we are ready to hit the road ? Let's find out.
Linda and Ken, the previous owner of the RV, had already paid for the camp site space until the end of October, and were gracious to allow us to use it for our first test trip.
We loaded everything we could think of and the cats and headed off to the gas station to fill up with diesel. $176 seems a lot, but that ought to take us 700 miles or so, and it's not like we will be refueling every day. We started a log to detail our consumption with gallons, price, mileage and as the generator is also fed from the diesel tank, the hours on it.

Only one little moment was enough for the following to happen.

It is a matter of history that when the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.
He did this because he said in words to this effect:
'Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses -because somewhere down the road of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened'
This week, the UK debated whether to remove The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offends' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. It is not removed as yet.. However, this is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.
It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the,6 million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians, and 1,900 Catholic priests
Who were 'murdered, raped, burned, starved, beat, experimented on and humiliated' while the German people looked the other way!
Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.
How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center ..
'NEVER HAPPENED'
because it offends some Muslim in the U.S. ???

One of the primary reasons for creating an UbunutuBus was to have the ability to work on the road. As a major part of arsenal is being on-line, so having access to the Internet is important. Also the growing stock of media available there is another important resource for the project.

Finally I got around to writing a plug-in for Gallery2 for the content management system I use, b2evolution.
The original stopped working when I installed some other plug-in. Seems the original used a javascript library that did not play well with others. I waited and waited, but no-one else was offering one that worked with Gallery2 and B2evolution, so I got tired of waiting and started writing, and researching.

One of the first projects on our 'new' motor-home was to upgrade the TVs from analogue to digital. Although the existing system would be adequate for plugging into cable TV, we were looking for the ability of receiving over-the-air broadcast digital signals. Also the intention of converting the Discovery into an UbuntuBus would necessitate having the facility to view computer content on any of the screens.

We found our first motor home on Craig's list. It is a 2000 Fleetwood Discovery 36T.
One of the biggest selling points was the previous owners, Linda and Ken Shatz, who, as well as being nice people also had many years experience living in an RV, this being their third such vehicle. With 10 years and 2 motor coaches under their belt, they put all that knowledge into selecting this coach. As Ken pointed out, manufacturers know how to build them but do not live in them so miss some niceties that are second nature to seasoned RVers.

I spent many hours scouring the Internet looking for a suitable RV, slowly defining and redefining our requirements and preferences. We need a vehicle capable of housing the two of us and our five cats, that is self contained, able to provide us with the essentials of living, and suitable for conversion to an Ubuntu Bus.
Ebay provides an excellent source for researching the marketplace. With prolonged viewing you get a feel for which sellers to trust, how active the marketplace is and a sense of what is available.
RVWeb.com provides an overview, specifications, images, and floor plans of many RVs. It is not a complete guide to all RVs but has sufficient data to be a useful resource.
RV On-line, RVT, and RVZen are commercial sites advertising RVs for sale.
Google is an excellent resource for finding RV dealers and sales companies in an area. Using the map function, you can find RV sales establishments located in a specific area, useful for organizing day trips.
In the end we found what we needed on Craig's List.
Chess can be considered as a warfare based board game. Sun Tzu's Art of War is the ultimate warfare manual. It makes sense to join the two together.
Many of Sun Tzu's guidelines can be coded as rules, some are merely statements and govern things like the reason for going to war. These reasons can be excluded from any coded rule base. The rule base that can be extracted will form the basic strategy for our player.
A second element, to provide a picture of the battle field, will be a color map of the board. The idea being that each square on the board will be assigned a number based on how many chess pieces have access to that square. For development purposes, and possible visual effect, the Red and Green components of the squares background color will be based on each player's coverage of the square.
There will be further elements involved, one at least to tie the first two elements together. This is how my style of development works, it evolves.

This brand spanking new Airbus 340-600, the largest passenger airplane ever built, sits just outside its hangar in Toulouse , France without a single hour of airtime.

Enter the Arab flight crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as engine run-ups prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi.
The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area.

Then they took all Four engines to takeoff power with a virtually empty aircraft. Not having Read the run-up manuals, they had no clue just how light an empty A340-600 Really is.
The takeoff warning horn was blaring away in thecockpit because they had All 4 engines at full power.
The aircraft computers thought they were trying to take off, but it had not been configured properly (flaps/slats, etc..)

Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the alarm.
This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the air.

The computers automatically released all the Brakes and set the aircraft rocketing forward.
The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots can't land with the brakes on.
The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots can't land with the brakes on.

Not one member of the seven-man Arab crew was smart enough to throttle back the engines from their max power setting, so the $200 million brand-new Aircraft crashed into a blast barrier, totaling it.

The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown due to the news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere.

Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Muslim Arabs.

Finally, the photos are starting to leak out.

Someone asked me the other day "why I chose the Suse distribution of Linux?"
Good question, and it made me think.
Originally I bought a copy of Red Hat 5.2 to investigate Linux as an alternative to using Microsoft products. I do not remember why I failed to get it up and running as it is quite a few years ago. Suffice to say I gave up on it.
As a long time user of IBM products, I have come to trust their judgment in most things IT. They have made a few "errors" in my opinion, but that is neither here nor there. When I heard that IBM supported Suse, that was my clue to try again.

Master Sun, Sun Tzu, may or may not have been a real person. The Art of War, which is attributed to him, may have been a document to which many Chinese Philosophers had contributed. Although it has been dated to around 600 BCE, it mentions the use of chariots, which were used for a brief period around 400 BCE in Chinese warfare. This might suggest it was constructed over a period of 200 - 300 years. The conclusion being that it was a collaborative effort.

The Grand Prix of Turkey is in the bag. As usual, I rose from my slumbers to watch the event at 8am to find that it was not being broadcast on Speed TV, but is to be shown on Fox at 3pm. Not a total loss as I did hear a very interesting infomercial about bowel movements, and learned that there is a 150 year old person buried in Westminster Abbey, which was built in 174 CE.
Why Turkey would be of interest to US viewers is beyond me, wouldn't Monaco be of better draw? Could be the networks can only afford the cheaper races what with the recession and all. I will probably have the TV on anyway, but it appeared to be another procession, once Jenson passed Vettel. Might be fun to watch Barricello's unrewarded attempts to make up the initial ground lost at the start, at least he was trying to race. Kimi, having dropped several places at kick off, never seemed to make any headway, although he kept posting fastest sector 3 times.
The lack of visual candy, allowed me time to ruminate on the current shenanigans with the FIA and FOTA.

As with most problems encountered over the past decade that have no urgency, I move on to other tasks that can be done with more ease, and I can view F1 on the laptop anyway.
If you want to cut a long story short, just skip to the end for the solution.

For those who do not know, I run Linux on my computers, specifically OpenSuse. Normally, and part of the reason I do this is that, it is stable. Well yesterday, I was researching the meanings and origins of proper names used in a translation of the Gnostic Gospel of John I have recently read. My thinking is that the tales were originally conceptual teachings and, that through translation from Aramaic through Greek to Coptic, they morphed into plays acquiring a cast of characters. This, to me, only confuses the intended message.
Anyway, as I updated my list of Proper names and Concepts adding information about the tetragrammaton the system froze. The point of freezing being entry of the word for God in Hebrew.

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University .
On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee, inspected the elephant's foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

Tom Tancredo (R) criticized Sotomayor's affiliation with the National Council of La Raza, dubbing it as "a Latino KKK"
Mr Tancredo needs to understand the meaning of the word "racist". It involves hatred, something the Ku Klux Klan definitely is, and La Raza is not. La Raza, which translates as The Race, is an advocate group in America that pushes the interests of the US Latino population. Even if they did have designs on land within the US borders, that would still not make them racist.
The Chinese character for China translates as the Central Country. Is that racist also.
Environment
Sotomayor, writing for a three-judge panel , said the EPA may not engage in a cost-benefit analysis in implementing a rule that the "best technology available" must be used to limit the environmental impact of power plants on nearby aquatic life.
The case involved power plants that draw water from lakes and rivers for cooling purposes, killing fish and aquatic organisms in the process. Sotomayor ruled that the "best technology" regulation did not allow the EPA to weigh the cost of implementing the technology against the overall environmental benefit when issuing its rules.
The Supreme Court reversed Sotomayor's ruling in a 6-3 decision, saying that Sotomayor's interpretation of the "best technology" rule was too narrow. Justices Stevens, Souter and Ginsberg dissented, siding with Sotomayor's position

Peter Windsor, during the Grid set up for the Monaco Grand Prix, interviewed one of the Spice Girls. During the chat she asked if there were any Americans present to which Peter said that there were not, but there would be 2 next year. The only way he could be so positive about this is if his team, US Grand Prix Engineering, had already made a decision concerning their drivers. Read more »
Having read "The Gnostic Gospels of Jesus", The Definitive Collection of Mystic Gospels and Secret Books about Jesus of Nazareth by Marvin Meyer, which contains translations of documents uncovered near the modern city of Nag Hammadi, it occurred to me that, as the texts were originally written in Coptic, further analysis of proper names used in the text might lead to something interesting.
The languages involved are Hebrew or Aramaic, Greek, Coptic and English.
Hebrew or Aramaic were probably the original spoken language of Jesus and the disciples.
Coptic is the language used to record the texts.
English is the language I understand and that of the book.
We will get to Greek shortly.
In my reading/research I came across the following:
Goodness - Athoth
Forethought - Eloaios
Divinity - Astaphaios
Lordship - Yao
Kingdom - Sabaoth
Jealousy - Adonin
Sabbataios - Understanding
These are from translations probably origination in Hebrew, translated through Greek and Coptic ending in English.
My question: is there a connection between the pairings in Hebrew?
The idea was triggered by reading about the Third Luminary, Daveithai, appointed over the realms of Understanding, Love and Idea. Knowing that David translates to, or is associated with, beloved in Hebrew, it would be logical, and extremely interesting, that as Proper names remain phonetic whilst their nouns become lost in translation.
I consulted a Talmudic scholar to gain an insight. Although "Athoth" is understandable in Hebrew, it is not connected to goodness and the other names have no meaning. He did suggest that they looked more like Greek to him.
As with many words in the English language, and any other language for that matter, they originate as descriptions of ideas that can be passed from person to person. Look at the characters used by the Chinese, and by association, the Japanese, and Egyptian hieroglyphs. The traditional character for a tree is a symbol that looks like a tree. A forest is symbolized by 3 trees. Proper names are also descriptive, as with my own surname, Ryman, which translates as man of the river. Smith is any of a number of professions, e.g. blacksmith and silversmith.
As an exercise to further understand the truth, I will be translating parts of the Secret Book of John or the Apocryphon of John. Apocrypha originates from Greek apo- "away" and kryptein "to hide".
Dude what NEW team, it's the old Honda team. Honda pulled out leaving Ross Brawn with all the bells and whistles developed over the past few years but with no money. Now he has Sir Dick Branson backing him.
More interesting, apart from KERS and the diffuser issue, is the dual, capped or not, split formula. Which I really do not understand, meaning they are being stupid, or Mosley's and Eckleston's mid life crisis or senility.

The previous US government claimed that they would leverage every possible asset to defeat terrorism.
The current US government will not interfere in military matters as far as ejecting openly gay arabic translators from their ranks.
Where is the sense in that, although they have used torture to "extract" information from enemy combatants, as things now stand, there would be no one available that can understand what was said.
Of course not all arabic translators are gay, but that is not the point. Gay members of the military are just as much an asset than straight ones. I would suspect that our troops are more likely to be sodomized by "straight" gus than gays. I know some gay guys, and they are not interested in the slightest in sexual relations with non-gay men. They have gay-dar.

Last September Boycott Novell published a piece claiming that the FAA have had numerous incidents regarding the security of their current installed systems. CNN reported yesterday that a new invasion had occurred on their servers, which are Windows based, but that the Air Traffic control system, which was developed in the 1940's and 50's, had not been infiltrated.
The Pentagon are continually fighting off hackers.
When are they going to get it?
If I, as a computer consultant, recommended a Microsoft based system for a mission-critical system that required superior security, I would be at least fired, but would probably admit myself to the nearest psych institute.
Also yesterday, a story from eWeek reports that researchers have already worked out how to take over the NEW Windows OS that has not been released yet.
When are they going to get it?
Microsoft OS's will never be secure, as it is not in our best interests as the majority of the virus/malware industry would be redundant, with the associated loss of jobs. Why would you ever use a product in a security conscious environment that includes security flaws as part of its business model.
How many people have to die?
Cities all across America are finding it difficult in obtaining access to stimulus funds already allocated to them for shovel ready projects. The reason is bureaucratic red tape. Go figure. That IS part of the problem that got us into this mess in the first place. That is what the revolution is about. Freedom. Freedom from bureaucracy.

In the 1990's my interest in Artificial Intelligence was further piqued when I watched a video about research in AI at Reading University. It involved a number of ducklings, simple, mobile autonomous vehicles. I have little idea as to the exact programming involved, but tend to believe the Professor in charge did. So his comment when asked questions about the project would need to be heeded. One must assume the results had been analised. The professor explained that the ducklings had selected a leader and followed that one around. When asked why they did this the Professor answered "We have no idea". That why I am drawn to AI. The idea that a valid answer to a question about math and computing has such an answer is the place I want to be.

"You just don't get it" ought to be the mantra for the upcoming revolution.
Identifying the protagonists:
The first one is easy, that's us ( or most of us ), the People, the Populous, the Man on the street, Joe Six-pack, etc....
The second is also part of us, or ought to be, the Government, the guys we nominated to represent us in matters that affect us and our lands.

The global revolution has started, in London. Are we surprised? Of course we are, because we believe what we are told, if it is what we want to hear. How many times have I heard things like "We have recovered from economic disasters before, so we will recover from this one" or "We are a strong nation and we will prevail". Tell that to Goliath, or Nero, or The Romanovs.

Link: http://www.allaboutlawns.com/lawn-maintenance-care/planting-and-repair/add-a-little-zen-to-your-garden.php Tips for Using Zen Gardening in Your Own Garden
- Zen gardens are not showy, busy, or haphazard. The landscape is well-ordered and planned. Any item placed in the Zen garden is purposeful and symbolic in some way.
- Water is a crucial element in a Zen garden; either real water in the form of a fountain or pond, or implied water in the form of a bed of raked sand or gravel. The mountains of stone and concentric circles of raked gravel represent, not only a body of water, but the larger universe as well.
- The overall goal of a Zen garden is to create a sense of permanence in your landscape. Rocks represent mountains, and their placement is meaningful and symbolic.
- Zen gardens are designed for year-round landscaping appeal. Evergreens and moss ground covers provide cyclic continuity. Your Zen garden is never "dormant," but always alive. Whether spring showers, winter snow, or summer heat descend upon a Zen garden, it is always alive and appealing to the senses.
- A Zen garden isn't built in a day. Planning the landscaping for this project is a meditative process that should be as calming as your garden design itself. Don't just grab a bunch of rocks and stick them in your Zen garden. Choose your stones carefully based on how they make you feel, and what they conjure in your imagination.
- There are evergreen selections widely available in the US, which work well in Zen garden landscaping. Some fitting evergreens for your Zen garden include traditional Japanese pines and hollies. Native species, such as mountain laurel, work well in a Zen garden as well.
- Deciduous trees add a delicacy to a Zen garden, much like a gauzy lace curtain lends to a simple window. The slight and lovely Japanese maple adds fine, garnet foliage to the landscape. Depending on the size of your Zen garden, just one or two well-chosen trees are all you need. Remember, you are looking for tranquil and restful, not a forest primeval.
- Tending a Zen garden is not, by its very nature, a chore or something to be rushed through. The meditative quality of a Zen garden lies not only in the viewing of the garden design, but in the pruning, nurturing, and especially the raking of the garden as well. Zen gardens are meant to be fussed over and puttered with.

There are, however, a multitude of Linux Distributions, which are packages of the core Linux o/s and a variety of software applications, geared for specific demographics. There are several mobile phones on the market that are run on the Linux o/s, if it has a computer chip in it, then there is probably a distribution out there that can operate it.

To provide some background to this article:
Having been involved in the Computer Industry since the 1970's, I witnessed first hand the evolution of computing since the industry was about 15 years old. Much has changed, from Scientist in white coats entering climate controlled computer rooms holding the Mainframe and its peripheral devices through an airlock with tacky mats to wrist watches and cell phones with more memory and processing power than the first Mainframe I worked on, which was an ICL 1903a running George III, and NO screens.
I remember the plethora of proprietary PCs and their unique operating systems, before the advent of Microsoft. Halcyon days indeed.

With the recent episode in Illinois exposing the "bad" people in State Government, the previous Administration's disgraced members, and, from our local experience, Elected County and City Officials being arrested on charges of corruption, it appears that the entire system is riddled with rot.
President Obama has already laid down the law at the Federal level which, given time, should perculate down through all departments.
He has also shown through word and deed that he prefers a proactive approach to problems.
The people cannot trust themselves to make the right decision either through financial or rhetorical enducement, or, financial or physical fear.
What action does the administration intend to take to ensure only "good" people are selected for Public Office.

Having expensed vast amounts of assets in the search for the World's #1 most wanted terrorist, Osama Bin Laden, it seems unbelievable that the entire world can not find one person among its masses. Of all the people that Osama meets on a day to day basis, there is not one that would not jump at the chance to better their lives and that of their families. The Muslim grocery seller in the foothills of whatever rocky protuberance provides harbor for Osama's current headquarters, is happy with grubbing in the dirt for the pitance he earns selling his produce to outlaws and outcasts. A more likely senario is that we do know exactly where Obama is. Problem is that it would be a conciderable waste of energy.
